Stevenage Grange was Chartered in 1987. With some 20 members, we are one of 1,845 Rotary clubs in Great Britain and Northern Ireland (RIBI). As such we form part of a world-wide community comprising some 1.2 million members in 166 countries.
Whilst the local public may view us a serious body, a single visit to one of our meetings might dispel that myth. Yes we hope we do some good, but most of all we like what we do as a Club. The atmosphere is relaxed. We enjoy unwinding with good company, a joke, normally a meal & a glass or so.
The Club actively supports Rotary’s Educational Foundation, the largest in the world, but our primary interest is to support local needs. That said we regularly respond to international crisis. We have a small emergencies disaster fund.
We organise events to raise monies, and provide ‘hands on support’ to the many educational, voluntary and charitable groups that make such a difference to peoples lives locally. We do it because we are able & want to put something back into the community we live and work in, and because we enjoy doing so.
Recent practical examples include: Our Christmas Party at Lonsdale School, Stevenage; Kids Out; The Living Room; Buying 2 boats to help fishing folk following the Tsunami in December 2005. The Grange is responsible for launching the Rotarians Ophthalmoscope Initiative (ROI). Other examples of practical support undertaken locally and internationally can be found by clicking What we do
